Gavin Launder - Head of Strategy

Gavin began his career in advertising as a freelance copywriter and account manager. In 1998, he started a commodities brokering company specialising in stock rationalisation consultation and brokerage. After finishing numerous programmes for quasi state and private organisations, he moved into the consulting arena.

A passion for skills development and strategy phase projects lead him to join Deloitte Consulting in 2005. As part of the Talent and Leadership division, he concentrated on scale recruitment projects and early leadership identification and skills development through school-based interventions.

Gavin joined The Lapdesk Company in 2008 after being approached by Lapdesk’s Founder. From an initial start in the Sales & Marketing Division, he has moved up to his present position as Head of Strategy for the Kommunity Group Projects group, where he is entirely accountable for charting the strategic direction of the organisation, and co-formulation of sponsor strategies incorporating the Kommunity Group Projects products and services.

Gavin has pursued studies in Copywriting and Small Business Management, and will be commencing with an MBL in 2012.


Shane Immelman - Founder

Shane is the founder of Kommunity Group Projects and The Lapdesk Company, a multi-national organisation specialising in the educational upliftment and development of underprivileged children across the continent of Africa, utilising a unique model of media and corporate intervention.

Shane is a social entrepreneur with an interest in low-tech innovation and application in addressing mass market lifestyle challenges. His current interests include media, enterprise development and life skills development initiatives, all relating to development and upliftment of underprivileged African youth and women.

He is an inducted member of Endeavor (2006 - www.endeavor.org) and actively supports emerging market development programmes with the business schools of Harvard, MIT Sloan, Stanford, the Universities of North Carolina and Texas, in Europe – INSEAD, and in South Africa – the Gordon Institute of Business Science and the University of Johannesburg’s Centre for Social Entrepreneurship.

Shane also serves on the board of Enke Forum, a youth leadership and development NGO, and on the Advisory Board of the Shonaquip Foundation, an NGO providing specialised support and care to paralysed, underprivileged children.
He has additionally been the recipient of the Proudly South African – New Business of the Year Award (2005) the South African iHeroes Grand Prix Award – 1st prize (2007) finalist in the Ernst & Young World Entrepeneur Awards (Social Category, 2008) is an inducted member of The African Leadership Institute (2008) a Desmond Tutu Fellow (Oxford, 2008) a 2009 LINC Fellowship recipient, and was recently invited to join the African Leadership Network (2010).
